Purvanshi, Kausha head for double header
Purvanshi Acharya and Kausha Bhairapure are set for double header as the young paddlers made to the Junior and Youth Girls finals of the Blue Buddha 1st Open Ahmedabad Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2019 here at Club O7.
Junior finals played in early afternoon saw Kausha, without much sweat, overpowered Anoushka Chatterjee 11-9 11-9 11-7 16-14. A few minutes later it was Purvanshi who celebrated her semifinal win. She defeated Janya Parikh with a 11-4 11-6 11-5 12-10 scoreline.
The Youth semifinals, played in the evening, had almost similar script. For second time in a day Kausha beat Anoushka Chatterjee. This time Kausha gave no room whatsoever as she romped home 11-6 11-7 11-6 11-3 in less than 15 minutes. Purvanshi, though, was made to fight for each point by Kavisha Shah. The match stretched over six games, was filled with rallies and forehand winners. Purvanshi won 11-6 13-15 11-8 11-8 13-11.
Interstingly, Purvanshi will be playing first final(s) of her career. “Last year I lost semis of both the categories. It is going to be a big moment (finals) for me,” said Purvanshi after her thrilling wins. As compared to last year Purvanshi looked much composed. The b-spectacled paddler made lot of variations in her service. “I mixed my services by keeping long and short, which made the difference. Besides, I kept attacking approach in this tournament, which is fetching me good results,” she added.
Meanwhile, Dhairya Parmar inched closer to yet another double. Having already booked berth in the Junior Boys final against Abhilash Raval, Dhairya also stormed into the Youth Boys final. The semifinal played on Friday, Dhairya needed four games to send Girish Jha packing 11-4 11-7 16-14 11-5. He will meet Akshit Savla, who advanced to the final at the expense of Abhilash Raval. In a closely fought contest, Akshit smartly kept the service returns short before going for a coutner-attack.
“I scored lot of points on his service, especially by counter-attacking,” said Akshit, after recording 11-8 8-11 12-10 11-9 11-5 win.

Preview:

Dhairya, Kausha take pole position

After having an average start to their respective State Ranking Tournament (SRT) campaigns, Dhairya Parmar and Kausha Bhairapure will look to find solace in the district competition at the Blue Buddha 1st Ahmedabad Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2019 that gets underway at Club O7 on Thursday. Singles champions Dhairya and Kausha made clean sweeps in all the three – senior, youth and junior – categories they competed in last season.

Table Tennis Association of Ahmedabad (TTAA), have received more than 200 entries across twelve categories – Men, Women, Youth (U-21) Boys & Girls, Junior (U-18) Boys & Girls, Sub-Junior (U-15) Boys & Girls, Cadet (U-12) Boys & Girls and Mini Cadet (U-10) Boys & Girls.

First of the three Ahmedabad RT should provide the defending champions an ideal platform to warm-up for the next month’s third SRT scheduled at Gandhidham.

Notably, at the SRT in Surat couple of months ago Dhairya claimed Junior Boys’ title but went trophy-less in Jamnagar. At the other end, Kausha is yet to open her SRT trophy account this calendar year.

On paper, talented Kausha looks stronger than her opponents in all three – Women’s, Youth Girls and Junior Girls – categories. With her calm and composed display, Kausha has outplayed her opponents. However, last season’s runners-up Kavisha Shah, who lost the Women’s title narrowly, is likely to give Kausha a run for her points. So will Purvanshi Acharya and Zena Chipia-Solanki who have the potential to provide an element of surprise in the contest. Purvanshi can make it a little tough for Kausha in the Youth and Junior Girls’ sections as well.

For Dhairya too, it looks a little rosy but his perseverance will also be tested in the new season. Riyan Dutta, Akshit Savla and Dev Patel have strengthened their arsenal in the last few months and are up for the battle.

However, the Cadet girls’ section is likely to see some close, heart-stopping competition. Ahmedabad has the finest bunch when it comes to the smallest category – Cadet. Pratha Pawar will lead the pack, which also comprises Hiya Singh, Mobini Chatterjee and Kashish Dey who have displayed their talent in the State Ranking Tournaments.
