Dhairya, Kausha take pole position
After having an average start to their respective State Ranking Tournament (SRT) campaigns, Dhairya Parmar and Kausha Bhairapure will look to find solace in the district competition at the Blue Buddha 1st Ahmedabad Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2019 that gets underway at Club O7 on Thursday. Singles champions Dhairya and Kausha made clean sweeps in all the three – senior, youth and junior – categories they competed in last season.
Table Tennis Association of Ahmedabad (TTAA), have received more than 200 entries across twelve categories – Men, Women, Youth (U-21) Boys & Girls, Junior (U-18) Boys & Girls, Sub-Junior (U-15) Boys & Girls, Cadet (U-12) Boys & Girls and Mini Cadet (U-10) Boys & Girls.
First of the three Ahmedabad RT should provide the defending champions an ideal platform to warm-up for the next month’s third SRT scheduled at Gandhidham.
Notably, at the SRT in Surat couple of months ago Dhairya claimed Junior Boys’ title but went trophy-less in Jamnagar. At the other end, Kausha is yet to open her SRT trophy account this calendar year.
On paper, talented Kausha looks stronger than her opponents in all three – Women’s, Youth Girls and Junior Girls – categories. With her calm and composed display, Kausha has outplayed her opponents. However, last season’s runners-up Kavisha Shah, who lost the Women’s title narrowly, is likely to give Kausha a run for her points. So will Purvanshi Acharya and Zena Chipia-Solanki who have the potential to provide an element of surprise in the contest. Purvanshi can make it a little tough for Kausha in the Youth and Junior Girls’ sections as well.
For Dhairya too, it looks a little rosy but his perseverance will also be tested in the new season. Riyan Dutta, Akshit Savla and Dev Patel have strengthened their arsenal in the last few months and are up for the battle.
However, the Cadet girls’ section is likely to see some close, heart-stopping competition. Ahmedabad has the finest bunch when it comes to the smallest category – Cadet. Pratha Pawar will lead the pack, which also comprises Hiya Singh, Mobini Chatterjee and Kashish Dey who have displayed their talent in the State Ranking Tournaments.
