Chitrax crowned Junior, Youth champion; Dhairya claims Men’s;
Kausha completes treble
Ahmedabad, 20th October: The last day of the Sport Club 2nd Ahmedabad District Table Tennis Championship 2018 provided perfect entertainment. It had all the ingredients to be potboiler, especially the boys category.
Whether it was Junior, Youth or Men’s final, the finalists were same – Chitrax Bhatt and Dhairya Parmar.
Chitrax claimed Junior and Youth Boys titles while Dhairya had the Men’s trophy to his credit.
Kaush Bhairapure continued her dominance as she claimed treble. She was crowned Women, Youth and Junior Girls champion.
All the finals played between Chitrax and Dhairya were stretched to seven games. Both played 21 games in total. And they were perfect exhibition of table tennis techniques whether engaging in rallies or scoring topspin winners.
The Junior Boys final was a sea-saw and it set the momentum for the next two clashes. Chitrax won 11-9 9-11 11-8 4-11 11-9 6-11 11-8.
In the Youth Boys final, Chitrax trailed and was staring as Dhairya raced to 3-0 lead. However, the lanky paddler refused to budge and played some wonderful forehand and backhand topspins winners. In contrast, Dhairya went in defensive mode allowing Chitrax to dictate terms and a comeback. Chitrax won 8-11 8-11 10-12 11-8 11-5 11-9 11-8.
Learning from his mistakes, Dhairya looked different player when both the paddlers took positions on either side of the table in the Men’s final. Chitrax won the first game and for a moment it seemed he will make 3-0, but Dhairya displayed his arsenal with some outstanding top-spin winners to make a roaring comeback. The match went down to the wire but Dhairya ensured he had the last laugh. He triumphed 8-11 11-3 11-9 11-13 5-11 11-8 11-9.
Women’s section was a complete contrast. Kausha Bhairapure made a clean sweep as she defeated Hely in Women’s final and Yashwi Shah in Youth and Junior Girls title rounds. In all the three finals Kausha needed minimal games to wrap up the contest.
Kausha started the rout with Junior girls title taming Yashwi Shah 11-5 11-9 11-8 11-7. Yashwi was once again at the receiving end in the Youth Girls final. In the best of the seven games contest, Kausha needed four, winning 11-9 11-7 11-9 11-5.
Women’s final was expected to provide some entertainment to the crowd. But Kausha gave no room whatsoever to Hely and registered an easy 11-9 11-5 11-6 12-10 victory.
Meanwhile, Janya Parikh and Harsh Patel were crowned Sub Junior Girls and Boys champions respectively. Pratha Pawar and Pratham Mehta triumphed in Mini Cadet sections.
