Blue Buddha 1st Open Ahmedabad Ranking Table Tennis Tournament 2018

Concluding Day Report:

Dhairya completes treble
Kausha bags double; Hely crowned women’s champ
Dhairya Parmar was a gatecrasher in Husband-wife Ravi Joshi-Hely Shah’s party as he defeated the latter to be crowned Men’s champion at the Blue Buddha 1st Open Ahmedabad Table Tennis Tournament played at the Club O7. In the process Dhairya completed a treble, having bagged Youth and Junior Boys title.
Ravi began the men’s final on a positive note taking a early lead. Dhairya, who has had an average performance in state ranking tournaments, seemed under pressure. Ravi won the first game11-6. However, the teenager had different ideas and plan against his seasoned opponent.
Dhairya with sheer pace variation and good reflexes managed to keep Ravi on backfoot. Couple of forehand topspin winners in the fourth set left Ravi a mere spectator on the table. It was enough for Dhairya to take control of the match. Dhairya came up with some flawless backhand winners to close the match with a 6-11 11-7 6-11 11-4 11-9 11-5 win.
Earlier, Dhairya defeated Riyan Dutta (11-13 11-8 11-6 11-3 11-4) and Akshit Savla (14-16 11-7 11-8 11-6 12-10) in the Junior and Youth Boys finals respectively.
Few minutes earlier to men’s final Hely defeated Kausha Bhairapure in the Women’s final 11-6 11-5 11-6 4-11 11-5. Hely dropped just one game and she dominated the match. Kausha did show her brilliance but it was in patches.
However, Kausha had a double to her credit. She won the Junior and Youth Girls titles. On both the occasions it was Yashwi Shah at the receiving end. Kausha won the Youth final with a 11-5 11-6 11-5 13-11 scoreline while it was 10-12 11-4 11-9 11-5 11-8 in the Junior section title round. Yashwi was guilty of making a few unforced errors.

Kaavya, Pratha Cadet Champions

Anuj and Angel walk away with Sub Junior titles

Kaavya Panjabi and Pratha Pawar were crowned Cadet boys’ and girls’
champions respectively at the Blue Buddha 1st Open Ahmedabad Table
Tennis Tournament 2018 played here at Club O7. Played on adjoining
tables, Kaavya needed five games to overcome Himansh Dahiya while
Pratha’s match against Namya Shah was stretched to thrilling seven
games.

Playing positive game from the first point, Kaavya played with lot of
aggression during his 11-8 12-10 4-11 11-9 11-5 win in the boys’
final. He was good on both the flanks, especially his backhand returns
that fetched him maximum points. Kaavya also kept Himansh busy before
hitting down the line winner.

On the adjoining table, Cadet girls title round encounter went down to
the wire. Super cool Pratha won 5-11 8-11 15-13 12-10 7-11 12-10 11-8.

Meanwhile, Anuj Joshi was crowned Sub Junior Boys’ champion. He
accounted for Abhimanyu Dahiya with a staggering 10-12 11-7 11-8 11-9
9-11 11-13 11-5 victory. Highlight of southpaw Anuj’s triumph was his
forehand topspin shots that troubled Abhimanyu throughout the match.
Anuj’s subtle variations in service made the difference.

Angel Parkar walked away with the Sub Junior Girls title at the
expense of Jaanya Parikh. Jaanya who had upset Anoushka Chatterjee in
Junior Girls section few minutes earlier, couldn’t lift her game and
was guilty of putting quite a few balls into the net. Angel, on the
other hand, was flawless with some excellent forehand winners giving
Jaanya no chance to return in her 9-11 11-7 11-9 13-11 11-9 win.

Day – 1 Report:

Ridham survives Anuj scare

Dhairya, Riyan, Dev advance to Youth quarters

The day when most of the Youth Boys Quarterfinals concluded in three
games, the match between Ridham Amaraniya and Anuj Joshi was no less
than a marathon encounter on the first day of the Blue Buddha 1st Open
Ahmedabad Table Tennis Tournament 2018 here at Club 07. Ridham
overcame his four years younger opponent Anuj 3-2.

With some good half-long and short service, Ridham made an early
impact and won the first two games 11-6 12-10. But Anuj had different
ideas. The southpaw changed gears and played some excellent top-spin
shots on either sides breaking Ridham’s rhythm. Anuj followed it with
yet another good in the fourth game to make 2-2.

“When Anuj pulled one back to make it 2-1, I sensed that the match was
going into the decider. Luckily I recovered in time and control my
nerves and played attacking game to win the decider,” said Ridham,
after recording 11-6 12-10 6-11 7-11 11-8 win.

Tournament Preview:

Dhairya looks for redemption at Open Ahmedabad TT

Three-day carnival gets underway on Thursday

AHMEDABAD:

For Dhairya Parmar, the Blue Buddha 1st Open Ahmedabad Table Tennis Tournament 2018 that gets underway at Club O7 on Thursday, couldnt have come at the better time. Dhaiya has got top billing in Junior, Youth and Men’s section.

The junior paddler has had an average season, by his standards, so far. In the four State Ranking Tournaments played this year, Dhairya has competed in all the three sections but has only one title to his credit – Junior Boys’ title at Godhra couple of months ago.

Dhairya has been working hard on his game, unfortunately he has not been able to produce desired results. At least one title at Club O7 shall inject new confidence in him. However, its not going to be easy either. Top in Men’s section, before lifting the trophy, Dhairya will have to pass two tests – second seed Hardik Solanki and inform Ravi Joshi, who will be making debut in Ahmedabad district tournament.

“This is going to be very important tournament for me. A title, especially in Men’s category will make a huge difference as we have one  more State Ranking and Inter-District tournaments in next couple of months. It’s not easy as there are good players in the competition abut I am ready for the challenge. I have figured out my mistakes and worked upon them,” said Dhairya.

In Junior and Youth Boys sections Dhairya should have a relatively easy passage towards the trophy.

Meanwhile, in the Women’s section, Hely Shah is top seed. She, too, will have an uphill task as second seed Kausha Bhairapure is in good rhythm. Kausha won her maiden state Women’s title at Gujarat State Ranking Tournament in Anand ten days ago.

Kausha will start favourite in Junior Girls section as well where she has got the top billing.

The tournament has attracted more than 300 entries in twelve different categories.
